During the course of my training in travel health, I came to hate mosquitoes more than your average Manitoban. In Manitoba, mosquitoes are mostly just annoying (aside from spreading West Nile virus) - ruining barbecues, golf games and, well, pretty much any outdoor summer activity. When you're travelling abroad, however, mosquitoes can transmit a multitude of severe infections, including malaria, yellow fever and dengue fever, among others.
In recent months, the zika virus has become prominent due to its potential effects on unborn babies. And how is it transmitted? You guessed it... mosquitoes. Click the picture to read my interview with Winnipeg Sun columnist Jim Bender.
